M37 Escandalo: a further confirmation
For the third year in a row Manuel Costantin’s M37 Escandalo, designed and built by 2 emme marine, has won the ORC B class Central European Championship.
The races were held between 19 to 26 June at Cres, in Croatia, during the Cres Sailing Week 2010, a series of sail events that as well as featuring the Central European Championship, also included the ORC 2010 National Champion title, reserved for Croatian craft.
Six races were fought out for a total of seven results in the general rankings, and the coastal race also took place during the week. This was worth double points because of the two arrival gates along the Cherso - Selve - Lussingrande (the eastern part of the island) - Ilovik – Cherso route.
The M37 from Trieste gained four victories, a third place and an eighth and sixth place in the coastal race. The last two were the result of a gap in the wind that held Escandalo up for some time, handing the advantage to her opponents.
The crew consisted of Andrea Micalli at the helm, Manuel Costantin (owner and tailer), Marco Steffè (bowman), Marco Tappetto (tailer), Ales Omari (maintrimmer), Filippo Scipioni (trimmer), Ottavio Persico (assistant bowman) and Raul Gandolfo (utility).
Second place in the ORC B rankings went to Fausto Pierobon’s Sagola GS (Grand Soleil 37 BC), followed by Milan Hajek’s Three Sisters (First 40.7). Karlo Kuret and All 4 One (Salona 42) won in the ORC A category.
The next event for the M37 Escandalo will be the ORC 2010 European Championships at Cagliari from 5 to 11 July. Joining Escandalo on the start line will be the M37 Low Noise owned by Peppino Giuffré from Milan and Francesco Sodini on Coconut.
